Embarkation Roll (www.awm.gov.au) has erroneously recorded Christian name as Walker instead of Walter
"LATROBE.
Word has been received that yet another soldier from our town has been decorated for distinguished conduct on the battlefield. Mr. Saunders having been advised that his son, Sergt. W. G. Saunders, who is a member of the 26th Batt., has been awarded the Military Medal for conspicuous services and bravery in the field. The award was gazetted in the Federal 'Gazette' of Aug. 27 last." - from the North Western Advocate and the Emu Bay Times 17 Sep 1917 (nla.gov.au)
