Alexander was born in Townsville 14 Nov 1890, son of Capt. Alexander Hugh Campbell and Elizabeth Quee.
Private Campbell enlisted in Townsville on 27 Mar 1916 aged 25, and embarked from Brisbane per HMAT A49 “Seang Choon” on 19 Sep 1916.
He served on the Western Front with the 52nd Battalion AIF, and was Wounded in Action on 10 Jun 1917 in France with shrapnel wound to the right knee. He was evacuated to England and returned to Australia on 23 Mar 1918 (medically unfit). He was discharged on 25 Jun 1918. He was a waterside worker. He died 1 Jan 1929.
