Frank suffered a gunshot wound to his right hand at Abu Sitta in Egypt on 19 April 1917. A Medical Officer assessed the wound as “wrist useless” on 5 September, resulting in Frank being transferred to a rest camp at Abbassia prior to embarking on the Wiltshire for Australia on 12 November 1917.
