Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Claud or Claude Harrison was one of three brothers to enlist in the First AIF. His older brother Percy Harrison 26th Battalion AIF, was killed a few months later on the Somme during November 1916, aged 28. Another brother, William Henry Harrison also served with the 26th Battalion and was sent home to Tasmania during early 1917 with heart problems.

Claud was one of the first Australians to enlist during August 1914. He was wounded at the Anzac landing, by shrapnel in the foot and evacuated to Cairo on 29 April 1915. He returned to Gallipoli in July 1915 but was evacuated sick with dysentery less than a month later. He was taken to Malta then England for treatment.

He rejoined the 12th Battalion during early 1916 and was killed in France during the first attack on Pozieres, his remains being lost forever.
