Military Medal

'During an enemy attack at Railway Arch, DERNANCOURT South West of ALBERT on 5th April, 1918, when acting as No. 1 on a Mortar, he continued to keep his Mortar in action throughout the engagement until the line was ordered to withdraw, when he destroyed it to prevent capture by the enemy. he also waited to assist a wounded comrade to a place of safety whilst under heavy enemy Machine gun fire, afterwards rejoining the line as an infantry man.'
