13 May 1918: Honoured Military Cross, German Spring Offensive 1918, For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on night of 3/4 March 1918 in a raid on the enemy's trenches in the vicinity of Warneton. He was in command of a party detailed to attack a strong point. He met with strong opposition but gallantry led his men forward and put the enemy to flight. He destroyed two dug outs and forces a machine gun team to retire with its gun, and was then able to cover successfully the flank of the raiding party. He inspired his men by his splendid courage and leadership.
