George Wollaston JACOB was born on 29th May, 1892 in Prospect, Adelaide, South Australia

His parents were Henry JACOB and Florence Edith WOLLASTON

George had 3 months previous service with the cadets before he enlisted with the 3rd Light Horse in 1915  which left Adelaide on 1st April, 1915 onboard HMAT Port Lincoln and served 18 months in Egypt and Gallipoli and was discharged at his Mothers request due to the sudden death of his father - he returned home and then re-enlisted  on 29th December, 1914 with the Australian Army - he was with the 27th Battalion, 19th reinforcements - Unit embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT Miltiades on 24th January, 1917

He was Killed in Action on 25th September, 1917 - no known grave - he is listed on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial and the Australian War Memorial - he was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

His two brothers were also serving with the AIF - Private John Gilbert JACOB also of the 50th Battalion was Killed in Action at Hamel on 7th July, 1918 and buried in Villers Bretonneux Military Cemetery, France. His other brother, 2nd Lieutenant Denis JACOB, 10th Batalion was awarded the Military Medal and returned to Australia in January, 1919.
