Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Adolph was the son of Edward and Katherine Magnus of Kew, Victoria. The father, Edward, a German immigrant, had died in 1892, the year Adolph was born.

Adolph's younger brother, 2384 Pte. George Henry Magnus 5th Australian Pioneer Battalion was killed in action in Belgium 26 October 1917, aged 26.

Their mother, Katherine, died during September 1917 so all the brothers’ medals went to a another brother, Herman Edward Magnus, also resident of Kew, Victoria.
