Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board
John Steen Clare COLLUM, (Service Number 4680) born at Penrith in 1890, joined the NSWGR as an engine cleaner at the Penrith locomotive depot in June 1910, previously having been employed casually. In 1911 he became a fuelman at Penrith. When he enlisted in the AIF at Casula in January 1916, he gave his ‘trade or calling’ as ‘labourer’.

John Steen Clare COLLUM, (Service Number 4680) was born at Penrith in 1890. He joined the NSWGR as an engine cleaner at the Penrith locomotive depot in June 1910. In 1911 he became a fuelman at Penrith. When he enlisted in the AIF at Casula in January 1916, he gave his occupation as ‘labourer’.
He embarked from Sydney in April 1916. He was sent via Egypt to England, where he landed in June 1916. He went to France, where he joined his unit in September. He spent two months in hospital being treated for venereal disease. He rejoined his battalion in January 1917. He spent a few more days in hospital in January, He was killed in action on 28th February.
He has no known grave but is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.
