71 years ago today, on the Friday morning of the 16th July 1954, Lance Sergeant George James Bromley, 30th Battalion (Reg No- 366A), painter from Young Street, Carrington, New South Wales and 158 Bruce Street, Cooks Hill, N.S.W., father of four (Jack, Len, Patricia, Max), was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 60. CATHOLIC 2-67. 40.

Born at Carrington, New South Wales on the 30th January 1894 to John Alfred, 3 times Mayor of Carrington, N.S.W., died 5.1.1931, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 67, buried at ANGLICAN 1-38. 41, from 99 Wilson Street, Carrington, N.S.W., and Annie Bromley nee Smith, died 18.9.1936, Carrington, N.S.W., age 65, sleeping at ANGLICAN 1-38. 39, from 99 Wilson Street, Carrington, N.S.W.; husband of Kathleen Veronica Bromley nee Clarke, married 1920, Hamilton, N.S.W., died 30.4.1968, Hamilton, N.S.W., age 71, sleeping here, George enlisted on the 18th July 1915 at Liverpool, N.S.W.

Unit embarked from Sydney, New South Wales on board HMAT A72 Beltana on the 9th November 1915.
Disembarked Suez, Egypt 11.12.1915.

Admitted to hospital 25.8.1916 (fistula), 4.12.1917 (diphtheria).

Appointed Lance Sergeant 29.9.1918.

Granted leave to England from 28.10.1918 to 15.11.1918.

Commenced return to Australia 21.6.1919.

George arrived home on the 16th August 1919, being discharged on the 8th October 1919.

Mr. Bromley’s name has been inscribed on the Carrington Memorial Gates, Carrington Municipal District Roll of Honor and the Carrington Football Club.

I have placed poppies at George’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.
