Leslie Cunliffe THOMASSON was born in Melbourne, Victoria in 1894

His parents were John Cunliffe THOMASSON and Jessie MURDISON who married on 24th January, 1884 in the Chalmers Church Manse in East Melbourne

He had previous service with the Senior Cadets for 1 year and the C Forces for 1 year before he enlisted in Warnambool on 27th September, 1916 and embarked with the 24th Infantry Battalion, 18th Reinforcements on the ship HMAT Hororato which left Melbourne on 23rd November, 1916

Leslie was Killed in Action in France on 12th August, 1918 and is buried in the Villers Bretonneux Military Cemetery

His name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Camberwell War Memorial in Victoria  - he is also commemorated at the Burwood Cemetery in Victoria
