Edward was the son of Edward John FAHY and was born in 1895 in Adelaide, SA.
There is no record of his birth certificate.
Nothing is known of Edward except what he stated on his Attestation Paper.
He was a Malster by trade and stated his step-mother was Mrs Lily FAHY, of 12 Stephen Street, off Halifax Street, Adelaide.
At the age of 21, Edward enlisted into the 1st AIF on the 23rd of May 1916 in Adelaide and allotted the service number 1946 and posted to B Company, 2nd Depot Battalion.
He was then transferred to the 43rd Battalion, 2nd Reinforcements in Mitcham Camp.
Edward embarked from Adelaide on board HMAT A70 Ballarat on the 12th of August 1916 and disembarked in Plymouth on the 30th of September and then marched into the 11th Training Battalion in Perham Downs the following day.
Edward suffered from Asthenia & Rheumatism and was transferred to No.2 Command Depot in Weymouth of the 26th of December 1916 and was recommended for return to Australia.
Edward embarked from England on board HT Belyana on the 17th of March 1917, disembarking in Adelaide on the 12th of May.
Edward was discharged from the AIF, medically unfit, on the 5th of November 1917 and awarded the British War Medal.
Edward married Emma Verity Caroline POPE on the 10th of January 1918 in the Methodist Manse in South Terrace, Adelaide. Emma was 4 months pregnant when they married.
Emma was the daughter of Benjamin POPE & Emma FERGUSON and was born on the 12th of May 1900 in Kensington, SA.
They made their first home at 25 Sydenham Road, Norwood and welcomed their first child; Dulcie Elizabeth Rita, on the 2nd of June 1918.
Roy Edward Benjamin was then born on the 4th of June 1920, followed by twin daughters; Marjorie Emma & Lydia Ruth on the 13th of December 1921.
Sadly little Lydia died on the 16th of May 1922 and they buried her in the Payneham Cemetery.
Jack Kenneth was their last child born on the 27th of November 1923.
Edward died on the 24th of December 1925 in Stirling and was buried in the Stirling Cemetery; Pauper, Section PG, Plot 49.
After Edward’s death Emma then married William Drummond SWANSON in 1928 and they had a son; Colin William, on the 19th of July 1929.
William then died on the 13th of November 1940 and Emma remarried to Percival Richard O’DANIEL.
Emma died on the 12th of October 1968 and was buried in the Dudley Park Cemetery.
Military
