Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

The son of Lawrence and Sarah Holt, of Canterbury, New South Wales. His brother, 1943 Pte. Frederick Leonard Holt 18th Battalion AIF, was killed in action at Flers on 19 November 1916, aged 26.

Edgar Holt was reported missing at Bullecourt on 3 May 1917. His mother placed a notice in the Sydney Mail during July 1917, “PTE. EDGAR WILLOUGHBY HOLT (A.I.F.), son of Mrs. S. Holt, of Ivanhoe, Lencombe Street, Canterbury, N.S.W., has been reported missing in France. His mother would be glad to hear from any soldier who can tell her anything about him.”

Nothing further was forthcoming and Edgar was declared by an AIF court of enquiry in late 1917 to be killed in action 3 May 1917. His remains were never found.
