After an illness extending over six weeks, the death occurred last Thursday of Mr. Harold Bevington of Una Street, Harris Park, secretary of Central Cumberland sub-branch of the Returned Sailors and Soldiers' League.
The condition of Mr. Bevington for a time showed improvement, but a heart attack and hemorrhage hastened his end.
Born at Sheffield, England, Mr. Bevington came to Australia with his parents in 1912, at the age of 15. He resided for some time at Lidcombe, and was employed first in a solicitor's office and later in the Union Box Company's office.
At the beginning of 1916, when in his eighteenth year, he enlisted with the A.I.F. and was wounded at Pozieres. He was declared medically unfit, and returned home at the end of 1917.
Shortly after he entered the office of Messrs. L. Harper and Co., Parramatta timber merchants, as accountant, and remained with that firm for thirteen years.
Mr Bevington took an interest in friendly society work, and was a member of Loyal Fountain Friendship Lodge, M.U.I.O.O.F., Parramatta.
He was ony 33 years of age, and is survived by this wife and two children, the elder being ten. His father predeceased him, but his mother resideds with a sister at Lidcombe. A brother lives at Artarmon.
The funeral took place on Saturday afternoon, and was largely attended. Rev. C.V. Burnett conducted the service at the graveside, in the Independent Cemetery, Rookwood.
Among a wealth of floral tributeds forwarded by friends where wreaths from the Central Cumberland sub-brranch R.S. and S.L.L., the Parramatta sub branch R.S. and S.L.., Granville sub branch, R.S. and S.L.. and Loyal Fountain of Friendship Lodge.
