Biography

"On Saturday word was received at Dandenong that Private Chas. Spetts, of the 5th battalion, B. Coy., 1st division, had been killed in action, and on Monday the flag at town hall was at half-mast in honor of the local volunteer. Private Spetts was at the landing on Gallipoli, were he was wounded. He returned to the firing line, and word has been received from the authorities that he was killed in action on August 7. Deceased, who was a native of Walhalla, and was 31 years of age, was a membr of the I.O.B., lodge and the rifle club, and had been employed for some time at the Dandenong quarry. To the bereaved relatives we extend our sympathy." - from the South Bourke and Mornington Journal 09 Sep 1915 (nla.gov.au)
