Served and suffered during The Great War, resting at Sandgate Cemetery.
49 years ago today, on the 12th July 1975, Sapper Carlton Parrott, 1st Australian Tunnelling Company (Reg No-5597), wharf labourer from 22 or 31 Newcomen Street, Newcastle, New South Wales and 374 King Street, Newcastle, N.S.W. and 71 Albert Street, Wickham, N.S.W., was laid to rest at Sandgate Cemetery, age 82. METHODIST 2 (PRIMITIVE) 8 NW. 57.
Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 19th June 1893 to William John P, died 18.6.1937, Ryde, N.S.W., age 74, and Harriet Rosetta Parrott nee Rundle, married 1883, Newcastle, N.S.W., remarried to Lewis Wold?, died 18.4.1923, Newcastle Hospital, N.S.W., age?, sleeping at ANGLICAN 1-12. 139, Wickham, N.S.W., died 27.11.1920, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 23, sleeping at ANGLICAN 1-08. 128, remarried to Doris Hilda Varley Parrott nee Date, married 1923, Adamstown, N.S.W., died 23.10.1983, Newcastle, N.S.W., age 82, Carl enlisted on the 1st May 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.
Unit embarked from Melbourne, Victoria on board HMAT A38 Ulysses on the 25th October 1916.
Wounded in action - 13.3.1918 (mustard gas poisoning).
Proceeded on leave to England from 22.2.1919 to 10.3.1919.
Commenced return to Australia 31.5.1919.
Carl arrived home on the 12th July 1919, being discharged on the 21st August 1919.
Mr. Parrott’s name has been inscribed on the Newcastle Wharf Labourers Union Roll of Honor and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.
I have placed poppies at Carl’s gravesite in remembrance of his service and sacrifice for God, King & Country.

Older brother Albert William, born 4.8.1883, Newcastle, New South Wales, married labourer from "Armentieres", 53 Brunker Road, Hamilton West, (Newtown) New South Wales and John Street, Cardiff, N.S.W. and 7 Narara Road, Adamstown, N.S.W., enlisted 15.1.1916, 35th Battalion, (band member), Reg No-1474, died 16.4.1919, age 35, service record states Died after Discharge, not officially commemorated, also resting at the cemetery. ANGLICAN 1-08. 40.
