Sergeant Harold Lancelot Roberts (Service No:839) served in the AIF from 7 November 1914 to 6 October 1919 with 8th Light Horse Regiment at Anzac Cove, Gallipoli, Egypt, Sinai, Palestine and Syria. In WWII he served with 2 Battalion VDC before enlisting in Sydney  in the RAAF on 25 May 1942 at No 2 Recruiting Centre Sydney as an Aircraftman I (Service No:65149). ACI Roberts attended No 2 Initial Training School (ITS) and was attached to School of Administration Bradfield Park at Discharge on 29 June 1942.

Harold was born in Willenabrina via Warracknabeal, Victoria in 1892, seventh of ten children of Thomas (Tom) Roberts (b1849 in Brighton, South Australia) and Kate Sprigg (b1858 in Clarendon, South Australia). Tom was a Labourer in Morphett Vale and  Farmer in Minlacowie in South Australia in the 1870s. Tom and Kate married in Morphett Vale in 1878 and in 1889 moved to Willinabrina, Victoria where they raised their family and Tom was a Farmer.

Harold was a Farm Labourer and Farmer at Brentwood in Willenabrina, where he returned following his service in WWI. In 1920 in Melbourne he married Ivy Bessie Matilda Wallace (b1899 in Melbourne, Victoria) and lived for a short time in Willenabrina before settling in Melbourne where Harold was a Hairdresser/Barber. The family lived behind the shop (Hair Salon and Tobacconsit) and in 1942 Harold joined his two sons in the RAAF.
