Biography

Cecil Carrington WAMSLEY was born in 1891 at Ourimbah near Gosford, NSW

His parents were Archibald Albert Ernest WAMSLEY and Elizabeth BEVAN

He enlisted on 26th March, 1915 - 20th Battalion, C Company - Unit embarked from Sydney on the ship Berrima on 25th June 1915

Cecil was Killed in Action on 26th July, 1916 - no known grave

He is commemorated in the Australian War Memorial, The Australian National Memorial, Villers Bretonneux, France and also has a memorial headstone in Lisarow Cemetery, NSW (see photo)

"...Private 1017 Cecil 'Curly' Carrington Wamsley, C Company, 20th Battalion, of Ourimbah, NSW. A bushman prior to enlistment he embarked from Sydney on board Transport Berrima on 25 June 1915. Pte Wamsley was reported missing and killed in action on 26 July 1916, aged 25.
