Biography contributed by B Stanleu

Mr. and Mrs. R. Barr, of 109 Mary street, are still very much interested in this terrible war. They have al- ready lost two sons, Privates Colin and David Barr, who were both killed at Pozieres, and a third son, Private Edward, has been wounded. Their latest addition to the ranks is their son-in-law, Daniel (David) Conway (better known throughout Australia as Con Carroll, a very successful vaudeville comedian). He is the husband of Alice Barr (Alice Fane) and leaves his wife and child to do his bit for home and Empire. Con Carroll, as writer and a heap of fellows all over Australia and New Zealand know him, is an entertainer of no small ability and originality, and boys in camp tell that he is already a big favorite. It was Carroll who, besides pleasing with many good items himself, stimulated Hugh Cairns, Clarence O'Neil and Bert Rae to join him in the perform ance of a remarkable item, the Maori war song, at the jockeys' enter tainment to H. Treen, rider of the winner of the G.N. Steeplechase. Car roll is a most unassuming young man and will carry the good wishes of an army of friends. His brother, 'Tom Carroll, who enlisted at last Moonee Valley races, went into camp with him
