"THE BROTHERS TARDENT.
First Lieutenant Jules L. Tardent, of the 42nd Battalion, was awarded by the French military authorities the Croix de Guerre, with the following mention: A distinguished and brilliant officer. Detached as a liaison officer, in the first firing line with the 3rd Regiment of Zouaves. Has acquitted himself of his mission with the greatest distinction, giving in all circumstances proofs of an intelligent activity and a smiling courage."
On the right his brother, Corporal Emll A. Tardent (wounded), awarded Military Medal "for bravery and gallantry in action." The above photo, of two gallant sons of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. "DEATH OF MR. E. A. TARDENT, M.M. WYNNUM, April 3.
The death of Mr. Emlle Auguste Tardent took place suddenly on Saturday afternoon at his residence, Hill-crest Avenue, Wynnum Heights. The deceased was 53 years of age and came to Queensland when a child, with his parents, the late Mr. and. Mrs. Henry A. Tardent, from Switzerland. He served as a Crown lands ranger in the Nanango, Roma, and Ipswich districts until 1914, when he enlisted In the 42nd Battallan, returning In 1918. While on active service he received the Military Medal. On returning to civil life Mr. Tardent received an appointment in the Repatriation Department and for a time was in charge of the Ipswich branch. On resigning he took up work as a Journalist. He Inaugurated the 42nd Battalion Reunion Committee and took a leading part in the formation of the first sub-branch of the K.S.S.I.L.A. in Wynnum. From 1921 to 1924 Mr. Tardent was a representative of the No. 1 ward of the old Wynnum Town Council when the Mayor of the town was the present Lord Mayor of Brisbane (Alderman J. W. Greene). He resided in Wynnum for 13 years. The deceased for a time was a member of the Wynnum and Manly A.H. and I. Society. He leaves a widow, three daughters and two sons, Mrs. Mark Fogarty (Holland Park), Misses Irene and Esme Tardent, Mr. Leslie and Master Donald Tardent, and three grandchildren.
