Robert Edmund Brandenbergwas born in Adelaide. He was born in 1891. He used to be a clerk before enlisting and was also single. His mother’s name is Mary Brandenberg. Robert Edmund Brandenburg was 24 years, 9 months old when he enlisted to be in the army. His religious background was the Church of England. Brandenburg enlisted on 5/7/1915 at the Keswick Army Barracks. His rank was a private. His unit was the 32nd Australian Infantry Battalion. Brandenburg embarked on the 11th of April, 1916 from Adelaide. The ship he embarked on was the HMAT Aeneas A60. 

He was taken on strength to the 32nd battalion in France in 2/8/1916. Brandenberg became sick and was admitted to hospital on 21/8/1916 and returned back to his unit on 16/9/1916. He became sick on multiple occasions throughout his service. On 1/12/1917, Brandenberg got diagnosed with trench fever and travelled to England to recover. He embarked the St David Hospital Ship to reach England. Robert Edmund Brandenberg disembarked on 22/5/1918. He was officially discharged on 5/7/1918 due to being medically unfit because of trench fever. His total service for Australia in World War I was 2 years, 353 days. His service abroad in foreign areas was 2 years, 42 days, which is part of his total service. Brandenberg returned to Australia on the 13th of March 1918. Robert Edmund Brandenberg was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
