Charles Fiddling was the son of William and Fanny Lavinia Fiddling, of Woodford, New South Wales. The family had come out from Lincolnshire, England sometime after 1911.

Charles was reported as wounded in action, 18 July 1916, near Fromelles. He was admitted No 1 Casualty Clearing Station, 18 July 1916 (gunshot wound, left chest), where he died the next day. He was buried in Estaires Communal Cemetery, 20 July 1916.

His younger brother, 1931 Pte. John Fiddling 17th Battalion AIF had six weeks prior been killed in action on 6 June 1916, age 22.
