Elder son of Mr. S.H. Hogan, formerly of Woollahra and now of Melbourne, was born in Sydney in 1889, and educated at the Crown Street Public School. He joined the machine department of the Sydney Morning Herald in 1906.
In July 1916, he enlisted a s Private, and was posted to the 22nd reinforcements for the 3rd Battalion, sailing from Australia in November. He participated in a number of notable engagements in France, including Bullecort, Ypres, Passchedaele and Villers Bretonneux. He was killed by a bomb explosion at Ameiens on April 12, 1918.
