Son of Charles James Unstead and Margaret Unstead nee Kennedy of Hawker, SA.

Brother of Harold Unstead who returned on Australia on 24 August 1919 having served with the 12th Field Artillery Brigade and Charles James Unstead who returned to Australia on 23 March 1919 having served with the 46th Battalion

Next of kin given as Albert Ernest Unstead of Natimuk, Victoria.

28 September 1916 - enlisted at Tallangatta, Victoria with the 4th Light horse Regiment and with the rank of Private.

17 Janauary 1917 - promoted to Trooper

18 November 1917 - transferred to the 2nd Light Horse Regiment

21 November 1917 - 8th Field Artillery Brigade with the rank of Driver

Commenced return to Australia on 1 July 1919 aboard HT Karmala disembarking on 10 August 1919 at Fremantle and did not re-embark.

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

24 September 1919 - discharged at the 3rd Military District

During 1921c Leslie married Monica Margaret Tully in Victoria
