Born South Yarra Victoria, Enlisted in Melbourne September 1914, aged 21 years 1 months, 5f 8 inches 11 stone,an original of A Company 6th Battalion, embarked from Melbourne, Victoria, on 19 October 1914, killed in action at the Landing Gallipoli 25th April 1915.
Older brother, 568 Pte. Herbert George Bennett, 28th Battalion AIF was killed in action at Pozieres 29th July, 1916, age 39.
Another brother, 119 Pte. Albert Bennett 44th Battalion AIF, died 5 months after his return to Australia, after serving 3.5 years in France.
He was wounded in action 10th June 1917, GSW left hand, and wounded a second occasion (gassed) on the 24th April 1918. Admitted to the Shorncliffe Military Hospital 10-5-1918 suffering from bronchitis, suspected tuberculosis from the effects of gas.
He was only 17 when he enlisted and 21 when he died, cause of death is not stated, and however the father says on ROH circulars for other two sons that he died 5 months after returning to Australia.
