OBITUARY.
JOHN TURNER.
A man who had lived 71 years in the Armidale district died in the Armidale and New England Hospital early this week. He was John Turner, 81, who had been Caretaker of the Armidale Technical College where he resided. The late Mr. Turner at the time of his death, was the old est ex-serviceman residing in Armidale. He saw service in France during the First World War. Born in Berkshire, England in 1872, he was the eldest in a family of eight born to the late John and Elizabeth Turner. The family migrated to Australia in 1882 and took up residence near Walcha. Later, they moved to Aberbaldie, Gostwyck and then Armidale. Apart from time away at the World War and periodical visits, to other centres in New South Wales, the late Mr. Turner spent his whole adult life in Armidale. He was a station hand, with a particular knowledge of sheep. He was married to a Miss Isabella Bower, of armidale, who predeceased him some years ago. There were no children of the union. The late Mr, Turner is survived by brothers Edward (Ar- midale), Henry (Abington) and Percy (Sydney) and sister Mary (Mrs. M. McKenzie
of Sydney).
The funeral took place yesterday afternoon, for the Church of England portion of the Armidale cemetery after service at St. Peter's Cathedral.
