Biography contributed by Adelaide High School

Edwin Pate was born in approximately 1880 or 1881 to mother Agnes Pate and father Robert Pate. He was born in Adelaide, South Australia he then moved to Unley. He worked as a labourer. In October 1915 when he was 34 years old he enlisted in the AIF. He later embarked on the 11/4/1916. His service number was 2964 and was placed into the 32nd Battalion.

On 1 December 1916 he was wounded in action, in the foot. He returned to duty in April 1917. He returned to Australia in 1919 and was discharged.

A man was murdered on 12 December 1942 at a house in Hindley Street, Adelaide. This man is variously referred to as Edward or Edwin Pate. The headstone of Edwin Pate of the 32nd Battalion gives his date of death as 15 December 1942; it is very likely that these are one and the same person.
