Born at Newcastle, New South Wales on the 18th November 1887 to Thomas E and Emma Jones, Oliver enlisted May 1916 at Newcastle, N.S.W.

Admitted to hospital 2.2.1917 (bronchitis & influenza), 30.9.1917 (alveolar abscess), 13.1.1918 (trench fever), Oliver returned home June 1918, discharged medically unfit 30th October 1918.

Mr Jones’s name has been inscribed on the Cooks Hill St. John's Anglican Church Honor Roll (photo), and The Capt. Clarence Smith Jeffries (V.C.) and Pte. William Matthew Currey (V.C.) Memorial Wall.

Oliver’s headstone inscription proudly tells us he served with the 1st A.I.F., 36th Battalion, and I have placed poppies at Oliver’s gravesite in remembrance of his duty for God, King and Country.
