Biography contributed by Bradley Bliss

The son of Thomas Seers, George Edward Seers was born in Orange in 1891 and lived at ‘Valetta’ on McLachlan Street. Prior to the war he was a draper and worked at the Dalton Street Stores, which was the site of the old Myers store.

He enlisted for military service on the 15th August 1916 in Dubbo and joined the Australian Infantry 45th Battalion. He achieved the rank of Lance Corporal.

He was killed in action on either the 5th or 6th of April 1918 at Dernacourt – a place in the Somme region of France. He was just 27 years of age.

Lance Corporal Seers has no known grave. His name is inscribed on the Villers-Bretonneux memorial in France.
