Son of James Orton and May Fulton Orton ne Eaglesim of Upper Road, California Gully, Bendigo, Victoria.
Brother of Thomas Brown Orton died of wounds on 16 September 1917 while serving with the 2nd Australian Division Salvage Company and is buried in The Huts Cemetery, Plot V1, Row A, Grave 10 and Arthur George Orton who returned to Australia on 20 August 1919 having served with the 6th Battalion and 5th Machine Gun Battalion.
Commenced return to Australia on 24 July 1919 aboard HT Bakara disembarking on 27 September 1919
