Son of Frederick William Uren and Ethel May Uren of Hossock avenue, Coburg, Victoria.

22 September 1915 - enlisted at Melbourne, Victoria, with the 4th Light Horse Regiment with the rank of Private.

11 May 1916 - commenced return to Australia aboard HS Kanowna for discharge due to Tuberculosis disembarking on 15 June 1916 at Melbourne

16 July 1916 - discharged at the 3rd Military District as medically unfit due to Tuberculosis

19 February 1917 - re-enlisted with the 21st Battalion with service number 6941 

28 September 1918 - transferred to the 22nd Battalion

16 October 1918 - transferred to the 6th Battalion in the field

20 April 1919 - commenced return to Australia aboard HT Boonah disembarking on 8 June 1919

Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal

8 July 1919 - discharged at the 3rd Military District

During 1921c Ernest married Florence Jane Martha Oldham in Victoria
