25 Jul 1916:	Wounded AIF WW1, Private, 3990, 8th Infantry Battalion, Battle for Pozières , GSW to the chest. Evacuated to 44th CCS, situated at Puchevillers, where he died of his wounds later the same day.

Pte 3990 Joseph Patrick Harris was born at Talbot on 4 September 1873. His father was Henry Walpole Harris. Both of Joseph's parents died when their children were young, and they were placed in the Ballarat Orphanage.

Enlisting as a 41 year old in Maryborough on 13 July 1915, he died of a gunshot wound to the chest on 25 July 1916, and was buried at Puchevillers Cemetery, France.

A tree was later planted for Joseph Patrick Harris in the Ballarat Orphanage's "Arthur Kenny Avenue of Honour".
