Son of Robert Charles Quinan and Isabella Sorlie Quinan nee McDonald of Natimuk, Victoria. Brother of Andrew Quinan who returned to Australia on 31 March 1919 having served with the 58th Battalion.

Commenced return to Australia on 8 july 1919 aboard HT Friedrichsuhr disembarking on 1 September 1919
