From 1899-1902 he served in the South African (Boer War) War wi the Western Australian Contingent
"MATHESON-KING.- Killed in action at the Dardanelles, Don (better known as Don King, pugilist), beloved son of Donald Matheson, Marble Bar, and sincere friend of May Hall, Meekatharra.
