There is some confusion as to where he was born. One record shows him born at Cairns, Queensland, while his official service record records him born at Ballarat, Victoria

Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal

From 1899-1902 he served in the South African (Boer War) War wi the Western Australian Contingent
