Son of Frederick Veness and Ann Veness of 'Raeburn', Rae Street, Randwick, NSW.

Brother of Frederick Robert Veness who returned to Australia on 14 February 1918 having served with the 1st Pioneer Battalion; Uland Wilfred Veness who returned to Australia on 10 August 1919 having served with the 1st Field Company Engineers.

Apprenticed to Lukey & Micklin, Saddlers of Sydney, NSW for two years

Husband of Beatrice Veness nee Phillipson of Waverley Road, Woollahra, NSW. Isaac and Beatrice married during 1910c in Paddington, NSW
