Youngest of the three brothers who served in the Army (William, Keith and Nigel), Gunner Nigel Roy Forsyth (Service No:30320) enlisted in the AIF on 1 August 1916, and was attached to 22 Howitzer Brigade Reinforcement 8 on 9 November 1916 when he embarked with his Unit from Sydney for Devonport on board HMAT A84 Benalla. Gunner Forsyth served on the Western Front (France and Belgium), and embarked from England for Sydney on 23 July 1919 on board HT Main. Gunner Forsyth was attached to 4th Field Artillery Brigade at Discharge on 29 November 1919.

Nigel was born in Cooma, New South Wales in 1893, fourth of six children of Adam Forsyth (b1857 in Glencoe, South Australia) and Emily Susannah Fairey Wilcox (b1864 in Gawler, South Australia). Adam was working as a Municipal Engineer in Hamilton Victoria when he and Emily married in 1884. The couple moved to New South Wales, where they lived in Cooma and Goulburn before moving to Sydney. Adam joined the Civil Service, working as a Surveyor and Draftsman with the Lands Department (District Survey Office) in Cooma and Goulburn. Active in his community, Adam served as an Alderman in Cooma and Vaucluse, and as Mayor of Vaucluse in 1913. He was a senior officer of the Masonic Lodge at Cooma, an Elder of the Presbyterian Church and a 'prominent figure of Scots Church Sydney (Trove). 

Nigel was working as a Clerk in Sydney in 1916 when he enlisted in the Army. In 1921 in Sydney he married Marjorie Crozier (b1893 in Sydney, New South Wales). Nigel and Marjorie settled in Armidale, where they raised their family and Nigel was a Chartered Accountant and partner in WS Forsyth & Coy. Nigel was Secretary and Manager of Armidale Newspaper Coy Ltd, and he and Marjorie moved to Sydney in the early 1930s - Nigel was Manager of Country Press Ltd and Director of Gothan (Australasia) Ltd. In 1937 he was awarded a Coronation Medal in recognition of his work. Nigel died in 1939 following a long illness, attributed in part to his Army Service in WWI (Trove; Obituary 1939). Marjorie died in 1977.
