Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Rupert Clarence Thomas was, according to witnesses in his Red Cross File, killed by a piece of shrapnel during the advance on Morcourt on 8 August 1918.

His older brother, 12626 Pte. Claude Edison Thomas, also of the 14th Battalion AIF, had been killed in action only one month previous, on 5 July 1918, aged 27.

They were the sons of William Edward Paul Thomas and Louisa Thomas, of Caulfield, Victoria.

A third brother, 3634 Private Vere Stanley Thomas 8th Battalion AIF returned safely to Australia during 1919.
