Next of kin was given as his brother R.H. Douglas of Moran Street, Bendigo, Victoria
In July 1918 a Lilian Douglas of Boulder City, Western Australia contacted Base Records claiming to be John's widow. In 1920 R.H. Douglas told Base Records he had never seen her and could not substantitiate her claims as being John's widow
In June 1920 the Curator of Deceased Estates stated that they were satisfied that Lilian was the widow of John Douglas and was entitled to part of his estate. John was the father of her child John Robert Douglas
