Son of Joseph Francis Valkenburg and Mary Eleanor  Valkenburg of Hercules Street, Chatswood, NSW. Brother of Max Valkenburg who returned to Australia on 27 July 1919 having served with the 1st Light Horse Regiment

Commenced return to Australia on 23 June 1919 aboard HT Orita disembarking on 9 August 1919
