Great Sydney Central Station Honour Board
Cecil Annesley DUNPHY, (Service Number 2585), was born on 23 July 1892 at Tamworth. He first worked for the NSW Railways as a cleaner at Murrurundi Locomotive Depot from 6 January 1914. In June 1915 he was released from duty to join the Expeditionary Forces. At the time of his enlistment he was unmarried and gave his mother as his next of kin.

Cecil Annersley DUNPHY was born in 1892 in Tamworth, NSW
His parents were John Joseph DUNPHY and Miriam Ross GOSPER
He enlisted in Liverpool, NSW on 12th June 1915 with the 3rd Infantry Battalion and embarked with the 8th reinforcements on 9th August, 1915 on the ship HMAT Runic
Cecil died of shell wounds received in action on 19th November, 1915 at the 1st Casualty Clearing Station at Gallipoli
He is buried in Ari Burnu Cemetery in Turkey & his name is memorialised on the Australian War Memorial and the Tamworth Anzac Park Memorial
The Epitaph on his headstone reads
"We mourn you loss, your actions -
sweet balm to your loved ones bring"
Cecil was awarded the 1914-15 Star, British War Medal & the Victory Medal

Cecil Annesley DUNPHY (Service Number 2585) was born on 23rd July 1892 at Tamworth. He first worked for the NSW Railways as a cleaner at Murrurundi Locomotive Depot from 6th January 1914. In June 1915 he was released from duty to join the Expeditionary Forces. At the time of his enlistment he was unmarried and gave his mother as his next of kin.
He left Australia from Sydney aboard HMAT ‘Runic’ on 9th August 1915. He was taken on the strength of the 36rd Battalion at Anzac on 2nd November.
His military career lasted less than three weeks. He died on 19thNovember 1915 at the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, Anzac, from shell wounds received in action at Gallipoli. He was buried at Ari Burnu Cemetery, ½ mile N. of Anzac Cove, by Chaplain W A Brennan.
