Biography contributed by Carol Foster

Son of Walter and Annie Flack of Majors Creek, Braidwood, NSW

The above is a photograph of the late Private J. F. Flack, 18th Battalion, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Flack, of Major's Greek, who was recently reported as having been killed in  France. The deceased enlisted in January of last year.
Writing under date 6/10/17 to deceased's father, the Rev. W. N. Higgins, Chaplain, says :—

"Your son went forward with the Battalion to take part in the Flanders offensive last week, and while moving forward was hit by the bursting of a shell, and died immediately. He was buried on the field, and we are arranging to erect a cross to the memory of those who fell on that occasion. With sincere sympathy from the officers and men of the battalion."

Biography contributed by Helen digan

My mother Nell Jocelyn was with her Aunt & Uncle, Annie (nee Heazlett) and Walter Flack, parents of John Foster Flack, when news arrived of his death. I found this card whilst browsing through family history records of my mother's family (Jocelyn/Heazlett). He was known as Foster Flack. Annie was the daughter of John Heazlett, Mining Registrar of Major's Creek and Walter Flack who were married on 13 May 1885 at St Andrew's Church of England, Braidwood. NSW.
