Biography contributed by Stephen Brooks

Harold was the son of William John and Kate Box of Geraldton, Western Australia. He had two brothers who also served in the AIF. William, the father, was a highly respected JP in Geraldton.

Harold was with the 51st Battalion at Mouquet Farm when they suffered very high casualties on the 3 September 1915. Harold was reported as wounded and missing for almost 8 months.

The Geraldton Express reported "Three sons of our valued fellow townsman, Mr. W. J. Box, are assisting at the front in upholding the honor of Australia in the big struggle. Harold, a great favorite with the Geraldton people, is reported as missing since September 3 last. Roy was wounded, while Claude is with the colors, safe as yet."

During 1923 Harold's remains were found along with his identity disc which was returned to his family in Geraldton. Harold was reinterred in the Serre Road No.1 Cemetery.
