My Mother's Uncle

James Albert AHERN was my Mother's Uncle. He died just three days before she was born in 1918. I know that none of James' parents or siblings ever visited his grave and I promised my Mother that one day I would visit his War Grave at Pernois.

My Mother died before I got to visit but I honoured that promise and paid my respects to James Albert by visiting him at Pernois British Cemetery on 27th April 2018. That day was the 100th Anniversary of his passing, three days before the 100th year of my Mother's birth.

Visiting James at Pernois was one of the best days of my life, despite the fact that I was there because of his tragic passing.

To see the beauty of Pernois British Cemetery and the beautiful surrounds of Halloy-Le-Pernois, in northern France, gave me great solace to know that he has been interred in such beautiful surrounding. Lest We Forget.
