Gunner Robert Murray Wood (Service No:1030) was serving at Queenscliffe, Victoria with Royal Australian Garrison Artillery when he enlisted in the AIF on 27 April 1917. Gunner Wood served in Egypt and France with 36th Heavy Artillery Group and 1st Siege Battery, and was attached to 36th Heavy Artillery Group at Discharge on 14 January 1920.
Robert was born at Swan Hill, Victoria in 1897, second of three children of Robert Gravenor Wood (b1859 at Swan Hill, Victoria) and Sarah Upton (nee Belcher; b1865 at Smeaton via Creswick, Victoria). Robert Snr and Sarah married in 1894 at Swan Hill, where they settled and raised their family and Robert Snr was a Farmer before retiring to Melbourne in the mid 1920s.
Robert was serving with the Royal Australian Garrison Artillery when he enlisted in the AIF. Following his Discharge, he was a Wicker Worker in Melbourne in 1921 when he married Isla Victoria Berrigan (b1898 in Melbourne, Victoria). Robert and Isla settled in melbourne, where they raised their family and Robert was a Commercial Traveller and Insurance Salesman until his death in 1954. Isla died in 1962.
