Husband of Helena Hodgkison of Ashfield, New South Wales. George enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force on 4 April 1916. He served as a Private (Service No. 2363) with the 1st Pioneer Battalion during World War I. He was discharged medically unfit on 23 August 1918. He re-enlisted for Home Service and served as a Private in No. 2 District Guard, Australian Imperial Force (Service No. 1222). He died suddenly while on duty as a Ship's Guard on board HMAT "Medic" at Dalgetys Wharf Sydney, aged 48 years.
He was accepted for commemoration as Great War dead on 21 December 2016.
