OBITUARY.

Mr. GEORGE A. BANNER.

The death occurred at an early hour last Wednesday morning at his residence, Wongarra Street, West Bundaberg of Mr. George Archer Banner. The deceased was the fouth son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Banner, and he was held in high esteem by a wide circle of friends. A native of Bundaberg, he served his time at the baking trade under the able guidance of his father. He enlisted, returning (invalided) when peace was proclaimed. Later,

he went to Brisbane where he was employed by a firm. With the idea of gaining further experience in the bakering ibusiness, he came north, and was for some considerable time in Cairns and also at Innistail, and it was while he was in Cairns that the sad tidings of the death of his father was conveyed to him. He then returned to Bundaberg and entered the employ of Mr. C. E. Beyer, baker, of Water Street, South Bundaberg. -The late Mr Banner took a keen interest in local affairs, and was. for many years a prominent member of thie. Burnett Band, and ac ted as secretary during die' recent cham pionship band contest held at Marybor ough at Easter: time: About three months, ago he was. stricken down with an illness and, despite all that-medical skilful and careful nursing could do, he passed-away.. He is survived by three brothers and four sisters, namely Messrs Tred, Leonard and Herbert Banner, Misses Winnie Lily and Naomi Banner. . The sympathy of all sections pf the' community wrill he extended to the family. The late 'Mr. Banner was very well known in Cairns, where he was in the employ. of Messrs. Cronin and : Sleeman (bakers), and was held in highest esteem by all with whom he came in contact. He was also- a popular member of the Cairns Railway Band, to which body, he .was assistant secretary and drummer. He made' the trip with 'the band to Toowoomba fast year where they won the D.Grade Championship of Australia, - and* Vras ' also present at 'Maryborough this year as drummer of the Burnett Brass Band, which band were also successful in winning their Grade title.
