Son of Stephen William Veness and Adelaide Emily Elizabeth Veness of Namoi Street, Manilla, NSW.
Brother of Henry Clarence Veness who died of wounds on 2 August 1918 while serving with the 1st Divisional Signal Company. Henry is buried in the Villers-Bretonneux Military Cemetery , Plot X11, Row C, Grave 6; Stephen Norman Veness who returned to Australia on 14 April 1915 having served with the 1st Battalion
