Claude served at the landing on Anzac and suffered a bullet wound to the thigh on 2 May 1915, resulting in his evacuation to Egypt. He was returned to Australia as wounded in July 1915 however was kept in service and was sent back overseas with the 12th Battalion during early 1916. He was promoted to Corporal just before he was killed in action at Bullecourt in April 1917. Although buried in the field with map coordinates his grave was lost and he has no known grave.

His older brother, 1212 Pte. Horace Millhouse 15th Battalion had been killed in action attacking Hill 971 at Gallipoli 9 August 1915, aged 25.
