Biography contributed by Peter Cates

Vince Howies parents were living in Willunga at the time he enlisted, and there are strong family connections with the town. Vinrace was the nephew of Walter James Binney who also served in the war. Vinrace was barely 18 years old when he joined the AIF. At the time he was an unmarried labourer and a Methodist. He was 5'7"(170cm) tall and 126lbs (57Kg), with fair complexion and hair, and hazel eyes.

In 1923 Vinrace married Mary Ellen Jarvis. He died at Edwardstown aged 87 years nad his widow died on 16 May 1998 aged 93.
