When he enlisted for WW1 he was apprenticed to Australian Galvanising Works of Beckett Street, Melbourne, Victoria
On 29 January 1916 he embarked for Australia for three months change due to Enteric aboard HT Suffolk
Commenced return to Australia on 6 May 1919 aboard Kaisir-a-Hind
